Inukshuk Academy Grade 12 students embark on their final year with targeted course options designed for university, college, or workplace readiness. We offer Ontario Ministry-approved courses in university preparation (U), college preparation (C), mixed university/college (M), and open (O) formats. Students are supported in choosing courses that align with their post-secondary goals, completing the required 30-credit program for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), and fulfilling literacy and community involvement requirements. Flexible delivery by online and in-person alongside individualized guidance ensures that each learner can finish their academic journey confidently and successfully.
ENG4U – English, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course focuses on refining students’ literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills essential for success in university and beyond. Learners will explore and interpret a variety of complex literary works drawn from different historical periods and cultural contexts, as well as analyze informational and media texts. Through reading, writing, and oral communication activities, students will learn to express ideas with clarity, logic, and confidence using formal academic language. The course emphasizes independent thought, effective argumentation, and the development of sophisticated written, oral, and media work.
Students will also strengthen their ability to select appropriate reading and writing strategies, organize information effectively, and evaluate texts with depth and insight. By the end of the course, learners will be well prepared for postsecondary studies, research-oriented programs, and professional pathways that demand advanced communication and analytical abilities.
ENG4C – English, Grade 12 (College Preparation)
This course focuses on developing students’ literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills essential for success in college programs and in daily life. Learners will study a range of informational, literary, and graphic texts from different cultures and contexts, while strengthening their ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Through a variety of writing, speaking, and media assignments, students will learn to use language with accuracy, clarity, and confidence. Emphasis will be placed on applying appropriate reading and writing strategies, organizing ideas effectively, and producing coherent and purposeful work suited to academic and practical contexts. The course prepares students for college-level studies, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workplace, equipping them with the skills needed for effective communication and lifelong learning.
MHF4U – Advanced Functions, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course builds on students’ prior knowledge of mathematical concepts and deepens their understanding of different types of functions. Learners will explore polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, developing the ability to model real-world relationships and solve complex problems. Through investigation and analysis, students will learn techniques for transforming and combining functions and will strengthen their understanding of rates of change. Emphasis is placed on logical reasoning, problem-solving, and communication which is the key skills for success in higher-level mathematics.
This course provides essential preparation for Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) and for a variety of university programs in mathematics, science, engineering, and business.
MCV4U – Calculus and Vectors, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course extends students’ understanding of functions and rates of change through the study of differential calculus and vector analysis. Learners will explore derivatives of polynomial, exponential, rational, radical, and trigonometric functions, and apply these concepts to model and solve real-world problems. Students will also study geometric and algebraic representations of vectors and learn how to describe lines and planes in both two- and three-dimensional space. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, logical reasoning, and the use of mathematical tools to analyze and communicate solutions effectively.
This course provides a strong foundation for students pursuing university programs in science, engineering, mathematics, physics, economics, or business, particularly those that require university-level calculus or linear algebra.
MAP4C – Mathematics for College Technology, Grade 12 (College Preparation)
This course helps students extend their understanding of mathematics through practical, real-world applications. Learners will explore topics such as data analysis, geometry, trigonometry, and financial mathematics, developing the ability to apply mathematical reasoning to everyday and workplace situations. Students will analyze data using statistical tools, solve geometric and trigonometric problems, and apply financial concepts to scenarios involving budgeting, annuities, and personal finance decisions. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, logical reasoning, and clear communication of mathematical ideas. This course prepares students for college programs in business, health sciences, technology, and human services, as well as for skilled trades that require strong applied mathematics skills.
SPH4U – Physics, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course deepens students’ understanding of fundamental physics concepts and theories through the study of energy, motion, and fields. Learners will explore topics such as forces and motion, energy transformations, electricity and magnetism, gravitational and electric fields, electromagnetic radiation, and wave behavior. Students will also examine modern physics topics, including quantum mechanics and special relativity, to gain insight into how scientific understanding evolves with technological advancement. Through hands-on experiments and analytical problem-solving, students will strengthen their ability to interpret and evaluate data both qualitatively and quantitatively. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, precision in data collection, and connecting theoretical principles to practical and technological applications. Students will also consider the social and environmental impacts of physics in modern society. This course prepares learners for university studies in physics, engineering, computer science, health sciences, and other STEM-related programs.
SCH4U – Chemistry, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course deepens students’ understanding of chemistry by exploring the composition, behavior, and interactions of matter. Learners will study advanced topics including organic chemistry, molecular structure, energy changes, reaction rates, chemical equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Students will conduct investigations and problem-solving activities to explore chemical reactions and their real-world applications. Emphasis will be placed on scientific inquiry, quantitative reasoning, and effective communication of experimental results. Throughout the course, students will examine the relevance of chemistry in daily life and evaluate how chemical technologies impact health, industry, and the environment. This course prepares students for university programs in chemistry, biochemistry, medicine, engineering, environmental science, and related scientific disciplines.
SBI4U – Biology, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the concepts and processes that define living systems. Learners will study advanced topics in biochemistry, metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis, and population dynamics, connecting microscopic mechanisms to larger biological functions. Students will conduct hands-on laboratory investigations and research-based projects to analyze how biological systems interact and adapt. Emphasis will be placed on scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and the application of biological principles to real-world challenges in health, medicine, and the environment. By the end of the course, students will have developed the analytical and investigative skills required for university programs in biology, biochemistry, health sciences, medicine, environmental science, and biotechnology.
ICS4U – Computer Science, Grade 12 (University Preparation)
This course advances students’ understanding of computer science through the design and development of complex software solutions. Learners will apply modular and object-oriented programming principles to create fully documented, efficient, and well-structured programs that meet professional standards. Students will work both independently and in teams to plan, build, and evaluate a comprehensive software development project, integrating problem-solving, collaboration, and project management skills. They will analyze algorithm performance, explore emerging technologies, and examine the ethical, social, and environmental implications of computing in today’s digital world.
By the end of the course, students will have gained the technical, analytical, and communication skills needed for university studies in computer science, software engineering, information technology, and related fields.
