ENL1W - English - Grade 9

The Grade 9 English course focuses on developing students’ literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills through the study of a wide range of literary, informational, and media texts. Students read and analyze short stories, novels, poetry, drama, and non-fiction texts while learning how language is used to convey meaning, perspective, and purpose.

Throughout the course, students strengthen their reading comprehension, writing, oral communication, and media literacy skills. Emphasis is placed on organizing ideas clearly, supporting opinions with evidence, and communicating effectively for different audiences and purposes. Students also learn to apply the writing process to produce polished and coherent work.

This course supports the development of independent learning habits and prepares students for future English studies by building confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and critical analysis.

SNC1W - Science - Grade 9

The Grade 9 Science course provides students with a strong foundation in scientific concepts, inquiry skills, and critical thinking across four major areas of study: biology, chemistry, physics, and Earth and space science. The course emphasizes the interconnected nature of science, technology, society, and the environment.

Students investigate topics such as ecosystems and biodiversity, atomic structure and chemical reactions, principles of electricity, and Earth and space systems. Through hands-on activities, virtual labs, experiments, and research tasks, students develop skills in scientific inquiry, problem-solving, data analysis, and communication.

This course encourages curiosity, evidence-based reasoning, and responsible decision-making while helping students understand how scientific knowledge applies to real-world issues. Grade 9 Science prepares students for further studies in science and supports informed citizenship in an increasingly scientific and technological world.

MTH1W - Mathematics - Grade 9

The Grade 9 Mathematics course helps students develop a strong understanding of essential mathematical concepts and processes through problem-solving, reasoning, and real-life applications. The course builds confidence in mathematics by connecting foundational skills to practical and meaningful contexts.

Students explore number sense, algebra, proportional reasoning, geometry, measurement, probability, and linear relations. Emphasis is placed on mathematical thinking, communication, and the use of multiple strategies to solve problems. Students learn to represent mathematical ideas using graphs, tables, equations, and models.

This course promotes perseverance, logical reasoning, and independent learning while preparing students for a variety of pathways in Grade 10 mathematics and beyond. It supports the development of critical skills needed for academic success and everyday decision-making.

Yes! Our online learning platform allows both local and international students to complete their OSSD from anywhere in the world with full teacher support.

Each course typically takes 4 to 5 months, but fast-track options are available for students who wish to complete their credits sooner.

Yes. All instructors at Inukshuk Academy are Ontario-Certified Teachers (OCT) with experience in both in-person and virtual education.

Students can communicate with teachers through live sessions, email, or virtual office hours. Regular feedback and progress reports keep learning on track.
Students must complete 30 credits, 40 community service hours, and the Ontario Literacy requirement. Our academic advisors help you meet all of these with ease.
