ENG1D – English, Grade 9

The Grade 9 English course focuses on developing students’ literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills through the study of a wide range of literary, informational, and media texts. Students read and analyze short stories, novels, poetry, drama, and non-fiction texts while learning how language is used to convey meaning, perspective, and purpose.

Throughout the course, students strengthen their reading comprehension, writing, oral communication, and media literacy skills. Emphasis is placed on organizing ideas clearly, supporting opinions with evidence, and communicating effectively for different audiences and purposes. Students also learn to apply the writing process to produce polished and coherent work.

This course supports the development of independent learning habits and prepares students for future English studies by building confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and critical analysis.
